Matud ni ICC Spokesperson Orianne Maillet nga unanimous ang nahimong desisyon sa mga judges.
“..Today, the judges of pre-trial chamber one of the International Criminal Court unanimously confirmed all the charges against Rodrigo Roa Duterte and committed him to trial before trial chamber. Pre-trial chamber one concluded that there are substantial grounds to believe that Mr. Duterte is responsible for the crimes against humanity of murder and attempted murder. These crimes were allegedly committed as part of a widespread and systematic attack against a civilian population on the territory of the Republic of the Philippines between the 1st of November 2011 and the 16th of March 2019 in the context of the war on drugs campaign.
The judges based their decision on the evidence and arguments presented by the prosecutor and the defense during the confirmation of charges which took place in February 2026. The judges also considered the submissions of the parties and participants including participating victims. The defense and are not automatically entitled to appeal to this decision but they can request authorization from the pre-trial chamber to do so.
The case will be transferred to a trial chamber composed of three different judges who will decide on the next steps leading up to the trial. Trials at the ICC are fair and impartial and the defense will have sufficient time to prepare its case by respecting the rights of victims..”
